달의 산 김도암

조선조 문화의 기초를 이루는 성리학적 이념은 조선백자의 지대한 영향을 주었다.
이러한 환경 속에서 생겨난 조선백자는 후대에 많은 영향을 받으며
작가는 우리 시대의 영감의 원천이 자 일상의 삶이 되었다.

달의 산은 구분이 안 가는 하나의 산으로 연결되어 자연의 그림으로 눈부시지 않게 우리를 품는다.

특히 달 항아리는 수비 정제과정을 거쳐 빚어 전통 망댕이 가마에서
높은 온도로 구워내는 소송 방식으로 달 항아리에 대부분은 상아 접합 기법으로 제작되었다.

이 기법의 발생은 백자 큰 항아리의 제작에 있어 태토의 가소성이 떨어지는 점과
성형의 어려움을 극복하기 위해 생성된 것이다. 성형된 기물은 뒤집어서
접합하는 과정에서 형성되는 자연스러운 곡선과 비대칭의 아름다운 기물의
넉넉한 순백의 달 항아리로 태어나게 된다.

이러한 작가의 자신의 의도 되지 않은 형태의 푸근하면서도 겸손하고
당당한 힘을 느끼게 한다. 너그럽고 소박한 맛 담백한 미는 백자가 지닌
유려한 선에서 나오는 것으로 그 선이 지니고 있는 형을 파악하고 이해함으로써
가공과 장식을 거부한 채 소박한 모습으로 모든 사람들이 즐기는 미의 식으로 반영되길 바라고 있다.

이번 전시는 조선시대의 백자의 바탕이 되는 원료와 기법의 행위를
오랜 시간 반복하면서 시대적 변화에 우리 백자의 고유성을 찾아보고 연구한 시간의 결과물이다.
